RULES & EXPECTATIONS
1.) Style Guide. The Cloak & Dagger is meant as an immersive space grounded in the lore of FFXIV. We cater to “everyday person” character archetypes and, while we consider ourselves a Mature RP venue, we do ask our guests to consider what subject matter is appropriate for public RP.
( + Read More... ) 2.) The Cloak & Dagger and its community are safe spaces for marginalized players including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBT+, neurodivergent, and disabled writers. 3.) All Cops are Bastards. Those who take pride in being “politically incorrect,” “anti-Woke,” or self-identify with right-wing ideologies may consider this their warning to see themselves to the door.
4.) IC Actions will have IC Consequences. You can reasonably expect other characters to react to your character’s actions and words whether they are directly engaged with your character or not. Unless you have been informed otherwise via a /tell from staff, any “consequence” your character incurs for their behavior is strictly in-character/roleplay. 5.) Our establishment is RP Gil Only. No gil or items are exchanged at our events; prices on our menu are for immersion only. You are welcome to tip staff if you wish to do so. (If you tip the manager, they will divide their accumulated tips to the staff on duty at the end of the night. 6.) Some miscellaneous rules of engagement: Guests at our venue are must be 18+ (IC and OOC). We also observe the principle of "no shirt, no shoes, no service" at our establishment; please make sure your character is dressed appropriately for a public space and be mindful of your character's vanilla appearance.
Cocktail attire requested.
Cloak & Dagger does not officially use any "Wi-Fi" service.
Do not inquire about venue "wi-fi."
Activities
Dart Board

A dart board hangs on the wall next to the speakeasy's main bar. Perhaps one's fellow guests would be willing to play a few rounds while chatting and enjoying their drinks for the evening—or even the speakeasy's staff? It could never hurt to ask.
How to Play
FIRST Choose your game: 301, 501, or 701
This determines your /random starting limit. SECOND Player one uses /random with their and their partner's chosen limit:
For example: /random 501 THIRD Player two their and their partner's chosen limit:
For example: /random 501 FOURTH The result of each player's roll becomes their limit for round two and round two becomes their limit for round three. FIFTH The player who rolls closest to zero in round three wins!
Our Stage

The main (downstairs) floor of the speakeasy features a small stage, which is occasionally used to host special events including but not limited to poetry reading, story telling, and other performances.Advance reservation of the stage is encouraged, but not required; patrons who would like to provide entertainment for an evening are always welcome to take advantage of the space—though management of course requests that any acts put on are suitable for polite company.
CLOAK & DAGGER SYNC POLICY
Cloak & Dagger does not officially utilize any mod syncing services. As such, we consider ourselves a vanilla-first venue and ask attending players to be mindful of their character's vanilla appearance in the game. Other players and their characters will primarily experience your character as they appear in the vanilla game.As such, you are expected to dress appropriately for a safe-for-work public space. We have a "no shirt, no shoes, no service" policy, so please wear clothes rather than swimsuits or lingerie.Individual guests and staff members may use the syncing service of their choice. For ease of use (due to the fact that Cloak & Dagger does not operate a syncshell for its venue or other events), we recommend PlayerSync due to its implementation of a toggleable zone-wide sync. Please note if you opt to use zone sync in our venue that if your character's modded appearance is inappropriate for a safe-for-work public space, you may be asked to change or to leave. We do not endorse Lightless due to (1.) the development team's tacit endorsement of generative AI "art" and poor response to community criticism on the matter and (2.) a relative lack of transparency regarding service operating costs. As such, a Lightless syncshell for our community is not (and likely never will be) under consideration. In lieu of a sync service, we recommend the use of RPHub and Glance; portraits are included which appear along with OOC player notes and RP hooks on click or hover when characters are connected/verified correctly between the website and the plug-in.

Lore of Cloak & Dagger
Welcome to the Cloak & Dagger—
One of the finest speakeasies that Ul'dah has to offer. Located on the edge of the Brimming Heart, the establishment prides itself on a vast selection of wines, spirits, and cocktails with which to ease the burden of the day's labors. But there's always been something that doesn't quite sit right about it; perhaps it has to do with the fact that few people have claimed to ever see the establishment's proprietor, or perhaps it's the whisperings in the shadows, any one of various rumors, that set one's imagination to work...
On the Speakeasy...
Open from sundown until the wee hours of the morning almost every night a week, the Cloak & Dagger prides itself on a cocktail menu crafted with a meticulous eye for detail, wines and spirits bearing labels and brands to make all but the wealthiest of Ul’dah’s socialites green with envy, and a pleasant atmosphere where one can put up their feet and speak easy among good company. The Speakeasy likes to brand itself as perhaps “the best-kept secret of the Brimming Heart” thanks to its location and quiet atmosphere where the night is just as easily marked by the quiet din of conversation among patrons and staff as it is the jazz music emanating from the phonograph.Having been in business for a number of years, the Speakeasy has naturally accumulated a number of rumors pertaining to its operations. Perhaps the most persistent among these is the idea that the Cloak & Dagger Speakeasy’s current proprietor obtained the business from the previous owner by besting them in a hand of cards. It would not be the first or only fortune lost—or gained, depending on who you’re rooting for—in such a way in Ul’dah, with the city’s various gambling dens being its worst-kept secret. Such a rumor does beg the question as to whether the Speakeasy’s gilded veneer is all there is to it, though…Moreover, the notion that nothing offered is ever free hangs over the Speakeasy with regards to its business operations. An enterprise like any other, the Speakeasy keeps job listings posted throughout the city-state and in surrounding locales for various staff positions to fill both the Speakeasy’s service needs as well as its security needs. The pay scale offered, though, is notoriously livable for a business that by all rights should be operating on a razor-thin profit margin in order to keep its ledgers balanced. Ul’dah being Ul’dah, it’s difficult to think that such a generous offering wouldn’t have a catch to it—but what?
The Cloak & Dagger Speakeasy presents its visitors immediately with a gilded veneer befitting an establishment which takes the Ul’dahn axiom that divinity is the color of gold to heart: the decor of the interior is understated and lined with golden accents and panels of stained glass. The air is filled with the smell of warm sandalwood incense, wisps of smoke carrying the scent drifting through the air from strategically-placed incensories. The incense does little to cover the smell of expensive cigarette smoke that has long-since seeped into the walls and instead works to complement it.The primary operations of the speakeasy are centered around the downstairs bar. Upon descending the stairs, one would see—well, the bar proper of course, situated almost directly across from the stairs leading down, but also tall bookshelves along the back wall. The bookshelves are lined both with books and magazines, geared toward providing the Speakeasy’s patronage with accessible entertainment. The selected range is a malm wide and an ilm deep, focused on catering to popular appeal whether the volume is fiction, nonfiction, archived periodicals, or collected and bound art prints for perusal. The shelves, however, are far from the only place one would find artwork; the walls themselves are littered with framed pieces—but what’s this? A trained eye, or perhaps an eye at least familiar with the genuine articles, would find that the pieces on display do not appear to be genuine. The replicas are well-made, certainly, but wouldn’t an establishment like the Speakeasy prefer to display genuine works as a way of showing off its supposed wealth?
what's your modus operandi ?

Lore of Cloak & Dagger
At a glance—as well as on paper—
The Cloak & Dagger Speakeasy is a perfectly law-abiding enterprise. However, activities such as serving drinks at the bar and maintaining contracts with the merchants who supply the Speakeasy’s stock only account for the establishment’s… front of house business.
What lies in the shadows...
Once one pulls back the curtain and peeks at its back of house enterprises, one would find services rendered by information brokers, by enforcers, by couriers… And more. The Speakeasy does not solely consider a prospective employee in terms of maintaining its front-of-house cover. It also offers special consideration to those who have services they can offer to the Speakeasy and its guests, even if those additional services skirt the line of—or even fall entirely on the other side of—the law.The Speakeasy itself does not disclose the terms of its employment contracts, but the keen-eyed and keen-eared may notice a pattern: those who work for the Speakeasy both in front-of-house and back-of-house regards tend to be kept on retainer, being formally employed by the establishment and enjoying all the benefits of employment which the Speakeasy advertises publicly. Those who solely work back-of-house, however, are not formally kept on the payroll and are instead offered tasks on a per-contract basis; the public, however, may simply see these privileged few as “VIPs” for the special privileges they have earned by proving their value to the Speakeasy.Naturally, it follows that the Speakeasy is more than just an upscale idle fancy to every guest who walks through its doors—and that perhaps the declaration of neutral ground is more than just a declaration that squabbles pertaining to Ul’dah’s usual orders of business are best left at the gate. The Speakeasy is a place for patrons to meet for the purposes of conducting business away from prying eyes: an establishment, unconnected to one’s personal affairs, where one might brush shoulders with the sort who are well-acclimated to Ul’dah’s shadows. Those attuned to the flow of aether would find that the Speakeasy is warded against unwanted intrusion, and those with eyes and ears in low places may well have heard that the Proprietor has ways of dealing with trespassers.
The particulars of the Speakeasy's operations are muddled by rumors, which makes it difficult to discern fact from fiction. It’s not difficult to speculate that some of these rumors may have been started by the Proprietor themselves for the express purpose of muddying the waters, and then said rumors went on to take on a life of their own, far removed from the Proprietor’s input or original intentions. Whatever the case may be, it has ensured that the only way to separate the wheat from the chaff with regards to the Speakeasy is to step into that world for oneself… Which of course, would remove much of the plausible deniability one might enjoy on the basis of being an outside observer.Today, the rumors vary widely; it is said, for example, that the Speakeasy’s generosity is backed by the ability to leverage outstanding debts for favors in place of monetary repayment, which would seem to paint the Proprietor as a simple money-lender. On the other hand, it is said that the Speakeasy’s operations may be shielded from scrutiny by connections to big fish—be they an underworld syndicate or some socialite or another with connections to the Syndicate—which is just as viable a possibility, though it would naturally be in the interests of any would-be benefactor to maintain their anonymity so as to preserve Ul’dah’s delicate balance.
The Black Linkpearls
What is your Modus Operandi?
There are those who favor a silent blade; others, silver tongues, the embrace of night, or the sweetest kiss of poison. For each occasion, a suitable tool, and the black linkpearls are no different—a weapon to be wielded by those who belong to the shadows of the underworld.
These black linkpearls encrypt and decrypt messages on their specific frequency, though at the cost of only being able to access the frequency they were designed to operate at. While this renders them less flexible for use in terms of use than most linkpearls, it does make them uniquely suited for use in clandestine affairs… Which of course includes their present use-case of being used by criminals to coordinate their affairs. This encryption ensures a certain measure of protection from prying ears… That said, the black linkpearls themselves do present a problem to those who have adopted them:Nobody knows who created the black linkpearls, or for what purpose. As a consequence, nobody knows how to create more of them; it’s widely assumed that the original shell may have been destroyed at some point, as the number of black linkpearls in circulation seems to be finite but the exact number is presently unknown. Without any way to know for sure, it’s natural that those who adopt the black linkpearls for use would take additional measures to ensure their anonymity: the use of code names or callsigns over the lines themselves, dead drops when passing along a physical good is necessary, or even masks if face-to-face contact cannot be avoided.
The Cloak & Dagger is far from the first or only underworld enterprise to have ever utilized the black linkpearls, and the chances of it being the last are vanishingly slim. The network as a construct has existed since at least the years leading up to the Calamity, though there are scattered rumors of it having existed even earlier than that.As a result, the Speakeasy is far from the only way of coming into possession of a black linkpearl; there are rumors of happening upon one in a wide variety of serendipitous ways. The black linkpearls seem as liable to change hands in the course of regular underworld as coin during a transaction in the course of one’s regular work—if said regular work is in service to underworld interests, that is—and this phenomenon means that it is one of the Speakeasy’s top business priorities to obtain as many black linkpearls as possible for distribution to favorable parties. As a result, the Speakeasy is currently the most prominent—but far from only—entity on the network’s lines, and represents the most concrete point of entry for those who might be interested in obtaining a black linkpearl of their own.

Drybone Tavern
Thanalan Location
Situated along the Royal Allagan Sunway connecting Ul'dah with Gridania, Camp Drybone sits at the nexus of a number of interests. It serves as an important stop on the route from Ul'dah to Gridania, hosts no small number of Immortal Flames, and is located close to a church cemetary and sites important to followers of the Traders and the Warden both, to say nothing of its proximity to Amal'jaa territory and the Burning Wall.
(Primarily from Encyclopedia Eorzea, vol.1. Information presented is edited for appropriateness to the state of the setting as of 7.0 Dawntrail.)
Location Hooks
⬩ FOR MERCHANTS & SMUGGLERS... Situated along the Royal Allagan Sunway, a major trade route through Thanalan, Camp Drybone serves as an important stop-over in any merchant's journey between Ul'dah and Gridania.⬩ FOR ADHERENTS OF THE TRADERS OR THE WARDEN... Camp Drybone is located relatively near two religious sites: Thal's Respite, which devotees of Nald'thal use as a place for fasting and prayer (presuming that they are affluent enough to make the journey in the first place...), and the Mark of the Warden, where devotees of Azeyma offer prayer.⬩ FOR THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED A GREAT LOSS... The Church of Saint Adama Landama, named for a man sanctified in the Nald'thal faith for his philanthropy, became the final resting place of some who died in the Calamity. Many still visit the church to see their loved ones laid to rest there.

Wineport Tavern
La Noscea Location
Blessed with fertile soil and groundwater rich in minerals, Wineport is a Lominsan village famous for its vineyards and fine wines. The Bacchus grapes they grow are known to produce particularly exquisite vintages. Though the village is not a port in the traditional sense, its name derives from its bustling trade.
(From Encyclopedia Eorzea, vol. 1)
Location Hooks
⬩ FOR WINE ENTHUSIASTS... Though Winepart hardly wants for trade as a result of its bustling wine-making industry and realm-renowned vineyards, its vintners still host regular tastings for their wines to usher in each season and to unveil their latest vintages to the market.⬩ FOR MERCHANTS & SMUGGLERS... Wineport may not be a literal port, but it nonetheless has such bustling trade that few would question a merchant (or a "merchant") coming or going with their stock. At the crossroads of routes leading to and from Lower, Middle, and Upper La Noscea—and located a mere stone's throw away from an old Garlean castrum—it doubtlessly sees all manner of faces and goods passing through under the watch of the Yellowjackets.

Buscarron's Druthers
Black Shroud Location
The Druthers is run by a disenfranchised ex-sentry-turned-tavernkeep and welcomes all manner of folk, from upstanding to unsavory, so long as they follow Buscarron Strongarm's simple rules of etiquette: sit down, forget your worries, and savor your ale.
(From Encyclopedia Eorzea, vol. 1)
Location Hooks
⬩ FOR EVERYONE... Buscarron’s Druthers is—notoriously and openly—considered a neutral establishment where even unsavory sorts such as local highwaymen are welcome to stop in to forget their worries… As long as they don’t mind that the tavernkeep is a former sentry and they adhere to its rules.⬩ FOR ENTERPRISING CRIMINALS... Not only does Buscarron's Druthers open its doors for all manner of patrons, it's also sandwiched between the Upper Paths and Lower Paths of the Shroud, both of which are noted hotbeds of criminal activity. The Upper Paths are home to the headquarters of both the Redbelly Wasps and the Couerlclaw poachers; the Lower Paths, meanwhile, host the South Shroud Landing, an abandoned airship landing which the Shroud's criminals now use as a marketplace to hawk their ill-gotten goods away from the eyes of the law.

Wildcard Location
At the end of each rotation, Cloak & Dagger's Monthly Open World location gets chosen by a community vote in our Discord! While our standard locations are in accessible A Realm Reborn zones, Wildcard Locations may be selected from later expansions.

About Our Community
Cloak & Dagger is a cross-world criminal RP community based on the Crystal Datacenter that focuses on RP as a form of collaborative writing. We as a space are enthusiastic about the craft of storytelling, the social and collaborative aspects of roleplaying, and the lore of Final Fantasy XIV. We regard our community as a shared creative space where we strive to bring together writers of diverse background and experience levels under a player-driven, lore-grounded narrative framework through our community events and campaign.
We tend to adopt a Bring Your Own Bottle approach to RP; while the Coordinator Team will organize community RP and strive to provide players within our community accessible opportunities to get involved, individuals are also encouraged to utilize the space and narrative framework to advance and develop their own characters and stories—in fact, you’ll get more out of the space if you do!
What We Look For
Mob Bosses, Murderers, & Thieves
As a criminal-themed RP community, the Cloak & Dagger of course welcomes mob bosses, murderers, and thieves—and most things in-between. However, current involvement in criminal activity is not a requirement for involvement with Cloak & Dagger, its community, or its overarching narrative framework. Our community welcomes characters from all walks of life. Rather than narrowing based on premise or archetype, we utilize a Style Guide to set the boundaries for our space along the lines of lore adherence, our desired genre, and our desired tone.
enthusiastic creatives
We regard roleplay as a fundamentally creative activity, and our doors are always open to those who are likewise enthusiastic about storycraft, character-building, and narrative writing.
Get Involved
Visit Our Roleplay Events
Cloak & Dagger runs a variety of RP events, including a twice-monthly Speakeasy venue and a once-monthly Open World RP Night. Members of our community are also welcome to use our community spaces to coordinate pop-up RP events, and our venue is always unlocked (and NPC-staffed) for those who wish to visit off-hours.Our public RP events are open for anyone to participate in—whether your character is a criminal or not! Swing by and connect with our community!
Staff the Speakeasy
Speakeasy staff are just that: characters who work for the speakeasy in some official capacity, generally as service staff (bartenders, waitstaff) or security (guards, enforcers, risk management). Characters who work for the Speakeasy receive various in-character (narrative) benefits, and players receive a handful of OOC ones. Please note that formal employment by the speakeasy is not required to participate in Cloak & Dagger’s community RP! Staffing the Speakeasy is simply one of many hooks to get involved in with the establishment and its underlying criminal network.
what's your modus operandi ?

Community Rules
These rules govern OOC conduct and are purposefully simplified for brevity. Our rules in full can be found in our Discord or in the mirror link below.
"Rule Zero." or: Community Atmosphere
0a.) Be respectful. Remember that there is a human being behind the screen and strive to treat others the way you want to be treated. 0b.) Cloak & Dagger is a safe space for marginalized writers including but not limited to BIPOC, queer, neurodivergent, and disabled writers. This includes allowing members of marginalized communities to speak freely about their experiences and express themselves in ways that are authentic to their identities. 0c.) We will not tolerate bigotry, hate speech, or heinous conduct (such as abuse or inappropriate conduct with minors). Reports of such conduct, even those regarding incidents from outside of spaces we moderate, will result removal from our community. This includes creation or distribution of the following “dead dove” content/themes:
Age Requirement & Mature Content
1a.) Members of this community must be 18+. Due to RP in this community being geared toward mature subject matter and themes, we recommend participants to be 21+. 1b.) Mature, sensitive, or potentially triggering content should be appropriately tagged and spoilered. Here’s an example of what appropriately tagged and spoilered content looks like in Discord’s markdown: (cw: like this) ||sensitive content|| 1c.) Explicit NSFW content is not allowed: i.e. no full-on genitalia, depictions of sex acts, sexual fluids, or solicitation or advertisement of erotic RP. Suggestive content, artistic nudity, and discussions of sex/uality in the context of roleplay, writing, character-building, etc. are allowed when appropriately tagged and spoilered.
Creative Integrity
2a.) Generative AI is prohibited. 2b.) You are expected to credit artists when sharing art, including commissioned work. A link to their portfolio or social media account is preferred (if available). Watermarks or artist signatures on the image itself are not considered sufficient for artwork sourcing.
Please note that Cloak & Dagger does not have "No Politics" or "No Drama" rules.
We are far more concerned with the OOC conduct and content of character of members of our community. We strongly feel that "No Politics" and "No Drama" rules serve only to discourage members of the community from advocating for themselves on things that affect them and to shield bad actors in the wider RP community.
Roleplay Expectations
4a.) Always strive to treat your fellow writers respectfully and as equals by observing the basic tenants of RP etiquette.
Always Get Consent—Subject Matter Inclusion: Ask your RP partner before incorporating notably dark or potentially triggering subject matter into RP, such as substance abuse, child endangerment, systemic violence (such as racism), etc. (and be willing to adjust if they say no).
Always Get Consent—Character Alteration: Ask your RP partner for consent before proceeding with an action that could permanently alter their character (and be willing to adjust if they say no).
Minimize Metagaming: Ask your RP partner before utilizing knowledge that was acquired via OOC means in an RP scene or as a hook for interaction (and be willing to adjust if they say no).
Avoid IC/OOC Bleed: That the way a character feels about your character should not be taken as indicative of the way that writer feels about you as a person.
If your character is not being received the way you want them to be received, do not place the onus solely on other writers to adjust the way that they read what you’re writing.
4b.) Cloak & Dagger does not officially use any "Wi-Fi" service. Players participating in Cloak & Dagger events and spaces are expected to be mindful of the vanilla experience of players around them. 4c.) Cloak & Dagger’s roleplay takes place in a “Living World.” Roleplay set within public spaces can be reasonably assumed to be accessible to other characters present in that space. If you would like a conversation to remain private, you should utilize private channels such as /party or /tell. 4d.) Cloak & Dagger utilizes the idea of “soft canon” within public RP spaces such as our venue or scheduled open world gatherings: in short, interactions are considered non-canon first, but may then be incorporated into “hard canon” by individual writers (or campaign DMs, if applicable) on a case-by-case basis. 4e.) Characters who may be considered out-of-scope for our community’s Style Guide can still participate in our public (venue and open world) RP as long as they are presented in such a way that adheres to our Style Guide.
Style Guide
These rules govern our community's overall style of roleplay in relation to our position on FFXIV's lore, our target genre, and our desired tone. It is purposefully simplified for brevity. Our full Style Guide can be found in our Discord or in the mirror link below.
5a.) GENERAL CONTENT WARNINGS Substance Use/Abuse; (Graphic) Depictions of Violence; Politics; Race and Class-based Systemic Injustice; Activities and Themes Typical to Organized Crime; other content warnings may/will be added as needed. 5b.) ON LORE Cloak & Dagger is a space that relies heavily on the lore of Final Fantasy XIV’s setting for building our framework and narratives. As such, we expect characters participating in our community to comply with the game’s established lore and avoid incorporating elements that would require other writers to alter their understanding of the setting in order to engage. Exploring gray areas in the lore or developing headcanons to fill gaps left by available lore information is welcome and encouraged. 5c.) ON GENRE Cloak & Dagger is a fantasy caper / crime noir RP community designed to host narratives that center the “everyday people” of the setting: civilians, adventurers, and so forth. Magic and technology is treated as a commonplace part of the setting, but concepts such as the setting’s cosmology and nonhuman entities lie outside of our desired genre scope. As a space which may handle delicate narrative themes and which is focused predominantly on criminal RP, we describe ourselves as a Mature RP community. Please note we do not allow characters who participate in human trafficking or buy/sell/own slaves in our community.
5d.) ON TONE Cloak & Dagger is a narrative-oriented RP space. Writers in our space are expected to be mindful of the concepts of “suspension of disbelief” and “narrative scope” by putting thought into their character’s circumstances (past and present), the ways they interact with the world around them, and cause-and-effect relationships. The breadth and depth of a character’s skillset, their access to and allocation of resources, their level of influence in the setting, the reasons why they are the way that they are, etc. should all make logical sense in the context of their story and motivations. 5e.) ON CONSEQUENCES Cloak & Dagger is a narrative-oriented RP space, and as a result character actions can and should lead to (context-appropriate) consequences. Cloak & Dagger regards the term “consequence” as a value-neutral term: you can reasonably expect other characters (and the setting/environment) to react to your character’s actions.
Due to soft canon, characters who do not comply with our style guide can still participate in our public events! however, we do ask that they present a plausible/compliant façade within our spaces in order to allow other writers to opt-in (or out) to their level of comfort/interest.

Speakeasy Hiring Information
Speakeasy staff are just that: characters who work for the speakeasy in some official capacity, generally as service staff (bartenders, waitstaff) or security (guards, enforcers, risk management). Characters who work for the Speakeasy receive various in-character (narrative) benefits, and players receive a handful of OOC ones. Please note that formal employment by the speakeasy is not required to participate in Cloak & Dagger’s community RP! Staffing the Speakeasy is simply one of many hooks to get involved in with the establishment and its underlying criminal network.
Additionally, please note that our venue was established in 2018, before the current wave of the highly commercialized “venue scene” arrived in FFXIV. As such, this venue follows the philosophy that RP is a hobby, not a job. We expect prospective staff members to apply because they enjoy venue work, the environment provided by the community, and they believe that such a job would make sense for their character. As a result, Cloak & Dagger does not offer real gil compensation for working at our venue. Staff are, however, welcome to keep any tips they receive from guests.
staff positions
Service ⬩ Bartenders, Waitstaff, Liaisons
Staff members in service positions are often the primary points of contact between guests and the establishment and thus are considered the “face” of the establishment. As such, bartenders, waitstaff, and liaisons (greeters/hosts) are all considered service positions. Their responsibilities include taking, preparing, and delivering orders as well as socializing with the Speakeasy’s guests.
security ⬩ Bartenders, Waitstaff, Liaisons
Security staff are dedicated to protecting the Speakeasy’s business interests and ensuring the safety of both staff and guests. Their responsibilities include checking and securing weaponry brought onto the premises and informing management of any potential risks to the establishment’s operations.
story ⬩ narrative-oriented
“Story” staff are staff who may not be involved with the Speakeasy’s front-of-house operations in the same ways that bartenders or security personnel are, but nonetheless fill an in-universe niche. Examples of narrative-oriented staff positions include contracted or in-house performers, accountants and scribes, couriers and messengers, and cryptographers.
These examples are not exhaustive; characters with other talents or skills are of course welcome with negotiation, just ask! Characters in narrative positions are typically on the payroll as “Liaisons.” While characters in these niches are not responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Speakeasy, they are still expected to “show up to work.” Thus, they are held to the same attendance standards as service and security staff.

A lock box or mail slot on the premises for ease of client contact, if desired or needed;
Benefits associated with the risks of being involved with the Speakeasy’s criminal activities, where applicable (i.e. in the event a staff member attracts unwanted attention, the establishment will help them lay low);

in-character benefits
Prospective Speakeasy Staff must have a character profile posted in our Discord's profile channel which complies with all relevant requirements regarding format, content, and Style Guide adherence.
Prospective Speakeasy Staff must fill out a brief written application form through our ticket channel. A brief OOC interview will be conducted in the ticket to get a feel for the applicant’s finer character details and RP goals.
When submitting an application, you will have the opportunity to rank your top three preferred positions for your character on the form. Please note that after discussions, it is not guaranteed your character will be considered a good fit for your first choice of position.
Speakeasy Staff are expected to regularly attend our Speakeasy’s normally scheduled events which occur on the Second and Fourth Friday of every month. They are expected to maintain open lines of communication through designated staff channels regarding extended leaves of absence from the venue.
Staff will never be “fired” for inactivity; instead, staff who have been inactive for three months or more (missed three consecutive months of regularly scheduled openings) will be moved to Reserve status.
